Joint Apprenticeship and Training Committee: JATC

As JATC26.org states, the JATC is “made up of four representatives from Local Union 26 IBEW, and four representatives from the Washington DC Chapter of the National Electrical Contractors Association (NECA).” The Electrical Alliance supports the JATC apprenticeship program, which allows students to earn while they learn, embarking on their path to a rewarding career in the electrical trade.

Inova is building its sixth hospital in Franconia- Inova is building its sixth hospital in Franconia-Springfield, a $2 billion expansion that will bring a new inpatient hospital and expanded emergency care to the region. 

13 Local 26 members working the project for VarcoMac are doing it alongside a relative, five father-son pairs and a set of brothers and a nephew among them.

Before the Joint Apprenticeship Training Committee Before the Joint Apprenticeship Training Committee (JATC), Haider Hakky worked as a public health consultant. When he trained to become an electrician, he says the biggest surprise wasn't the physical work: it was how much curiosity matters on the job.

Haider’s advice for new apprentices: ask questions, dig into the answers, and learn from what other trades are thinking too. Building that kind of solidarity with a curious mind, he says, will take you far.

The Washington Building Congress has recognized co The Washington Building Congress has recognized construction excellence in the DC area for 70 years. This year, several Local 26 members and signatory contractors took home 2026 Craftsmanship Awards, including a Hall of Fame win for Brother Michael Breece, his eighth award.

It's proof of what Local 26 has always known: the skill and dedication of our membership are second to none. That reputation is part of why Local 26 saw the largest membership growth in the IBEW in 2025.

Local 26 members working for VarcoMac are helping Local 26 members working for VarcoMac are helping build Inova's sixth hospital, part of a $2 billion expansion in Franconia-Springfield.

About 150 members are onsite daily under Superintendent Leo Cook and Project Manager Ronald Cusic.

"IBEW Local 26 electricians have consistently provided skilled, professional craftsmanship while maintaining a strong commitment to safety, productivity, and quality," said Cusic.

From the conduit to the generators, this is work built for generations.
