This year, 27 participants competed in the SkillsUSA residential wiring competition in our area. Fifteen competed in Virginia at the Blue Ridge Technical Center and 12 participants competed at Southern Maryland’s North Point High School. Several JATC instructors acted as judges for the competition.
The JATC provided $6,535 worth of material to construct the stalls for the competition at North Point High School and electrical equipment and wire used at both locations. In addition, the JATC provided prizes for participants. Each participant received a Milwaukee zipper pouch and 25 ft. tape measure with a Fluke noncontact tester. First place received a Kline tool kit with multi-meter tester, second place received a Kline six-piece tool kit and third place received a Greenlee screwdriver set.
The Electrical Alliance has been a long term supporter of the Skills USA which is a national partnership of students, teachers and industry working together to ensure America has a skilled workforce. It provides educational programs, events and competitions that support career and technical education in the nation’s classrooms.
