Every major infrastructure project is only possible because of the skilled workers behind it. And each of these projects has a lasting impact on the community it serves.
This month, we’re excited to premiere a new MCCEI Build Your Path video that showcases exactly that. In it, you’ll meet a few of the talented electricians from The Electrical Alliance who are making Maryland’s Purple Line a reality.
The Purple Line is an important transit project that will connect communities, job centers, and universities across the region through 21 stations. Projects like this are critical for moving people around the area, but they also open up opportunities for the next generation of workers, strengthen local economies, create careers in the skilled trades, and unite communities across Maryland.
The Electrical Alliance trains and supplies the electrical workforce dedicated to this project. From installing track electrical systems to building out station infrastructure that will serve transit riders for decades, these professionals handle complex technical work that requires extensive training and expertise.
In the video, you’ll hear from electricians on the project about their work and career development. One foreman describes the technical demands of the Purple Line and how the Electrical Alliance’s training has helped prepare his team members for this level of work. He also shares his journey from facing early career challenges to now mentoring apprentices on the job site.
Another worker, an apprentice, discusses his experience learning the trade on a high-profile project, detailing the hands-on training and skill development he’s gaining through the Electrical Alliance’s program.
These snippets from the trade show how the Electrical Alliance’s apprenticeship model works by combining structured training with real-world experience on major infrastructure projects. This approach helps maintain a steady pipeline of qualified electricians who are capable of handling Maryland’s growing infrastructure needs.
The Purple Line video is part of MCCEI’s ongoing Build Your Path series, which profiles the skilled workers and training programs supporting regional construction and infrastructure development.Watch for the premiere this month to get to know the skilled workers behind the project.
