The Electrical Alliance will host two free sessions in conjunction with the 2013 National Electrical Contractors Association (NECA) Convention and Show in Washington, D.C.
The Electrical Alliance, a cooperative effort between the electrical contractors of the Washington, D.C. Chapter of NECA and skilled craftsmen of International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) Local 26, has developed two educational sessions focused on 70E safety and NECA’s National Electrical Installation Standards (NEIS) program. These free sessions, presented by national industry experts, were designed to help building owners and managers, engineers, specifiers, and general contractors understand the latest trends and technologies in safety and quality installation. These events will provide industry enhancements that can add value to area construction projects, improve safety, and benefit the entire local electrical construction industry.
People who attend the sessions will be given access to the 2013 NECA Show – the largest display of electrical equipment, technology, and education in the United States.
Session details are as follows:
Safety – 70E, Monday, October 14, 2013, 10:00-11:30 a.m., Room 204A, Walter E. Washington Convention Center
- Owners, management companies, general contractors, and insurers will learn how to reduce their liability from electrical incidents in their facilities. Vince Miller, CSP, renowned safety expert and Washington, D.C. Chapter of NECA’s safety director, will provide an understanding of the requirements relevant to electrical equipment arc flash surveys, an understanding of how to use the survey results to protect workers and property, and options relevant to equipment modification which would reduce associated financial risks.
NEIS, Tuesday, October 15, 2013, 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m., Room 207A, Walter E. Washington Convention Center
- Attendees will get valuable insight about NECA’s NEIS program and how they can add value to any organization’s construction project through presenter Michael J. Johnston, NECA’s executive director of standards & safety. The NEIS are used not only by NECA contractors, but are also a proven value to construction specifiers such as architects and engineers. The NEIS can significantly reduce specification-writing time and improve the quality of electrical installations. This presentation provides a detailed review of NECA 1 Standard for Good Workmanship in Electrical Construction and highlights segments of a few popular specific titles and how they can effectively be applied. Attendees receive a complimentary copy of NECA-1-2010 Standard for Good Workmanship in Electrical Contracting
The Electrical Alliance is offering these sessions in conjunction with the 2013 NECA Convention and Show that will be held at the Washington, D.C. at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center. Those who attend the training sessions will get a free pass to NECA Show. Highlights include:
- The show floor – The NECA Show is the largest exposition for any and all electrical needs, including power supply, security systems, integrated building systems, lighting and controls. During 15 hours spread over three days, more than 300 manufacturers and distributors will showcase thousands of products and services.
- 19 technical workshops – During the tradeshow hours, technical workshops will cover some of the most important topics in the industry today, including electrical, safety, software, energy solutions, low voltage, technology, tools, and training.
- The latest tools and technologies – Attendees can also visit the Show Stopper Showcase located in front of the entrance of the NECA Show, to see innovative solutions that can help them on the job. They can check out the latest products and services that have been on the market since January 1, 2012 to have a firsthand experience before actually talking with the company on the show floor.
