The past year has been full of growth. Labor demands have increased, which means our contractors have been embracing new work opportunities across the region.
Here’s a look at how the Electrical Alliance has expanded and seized exciting new opportunities over the past six months.
Enhanced Member Engagement
Member engagement has been instrumental in securing project approvals throughout the past year. This is in part due to our diligent work to enhance member engagement through training and mobilization programs.
For example, we’ve pursued grant programs funded by the Build Back Better and Inflation Reduction Act. We’ve also initiated ‘Lunch and Learns’ for JATC apprentices, utilizing the Politics Activism and Livelihood curriculum to underscore the importance of community engagement. These efforts, coupled with mobilization campaigns surrounding critical votes, have yielded notable victories for projects like the Prince William Digital Gateway and King George AWS facility.
Partnership with the DC Department of Energy and Environment
Last summer, our partnership with the DC Department of Energy and the Environment was pivotal in advancing green trades workforce development. Through this collaboration, we’ve expanded our pool of first-source workers and fostered deeper connections with DC Government agencies.
Building Relationships with Elected Officials
This year, we’ve focussed on strengthening advocacy efforts and prioritizing relationships with elected officials and industry partners. These relationships cement our influence in the market and play an important role in the Electrical Alliance’s success.
The outcomes of the 2023 elections in Virginia underscore the impact of our involvement, resulting in strengthened pro-labor majorities and advocacy wins for our members.
Onwards and Upwards
As our organization continues to grow, so does the need to expand our workforce. We’re actively modernizing our marketing strategy to attract top-tier talent, leveraging digital platforms and strategic partnerships to broaden our reach.
Looking ahead, we’re committed to building on the past year’s achievements. By monitoring our programs, broadening our scope, and fostering collaboration, we’re confident in our ability to strengthen both our union and our partnerships through the Electrical Alliance.
