We’re excited to introduce Lorena Egusquiza, the Fall 2024 Electrical Alliance Norman Hill Scholarship Recipient.
The goal of the Normal Hill Scholarship is to increase diversity in construction management by sponsoring students at Virginia Tech Myers-Lawson School of Construction and providing internships with our electrical contractors. Together with the IBEW Local 26, we’ve donated over $135,000 to this initiative so far.
As Lorena told us in a letter, she came to the USA after she completed high school in her home city of Lima, Peru. When she first arrived in the country, she worked in a restaurant for three years while she got settled and established herself.
After building up her finances, she started studying at Northern Virginia Community College, where she pursued an Associate’s Degree in General Engineering. From there, she transferred to Virginia Tech, where she is currently completing a Bachelor’s Degree in Construction Engineering Management.
Lorena wrote to us, “This scholarship will help me achieve my goals by allowing me to finish my studies and in this way give beginning to my professional life, where I aspire to become a project manager for a general contractor company, and eventually move into consulting and business ownership.”
We’re so proud of Lorena! We look forward to seeing her reach for her goals in her trade and throughout her career.
