If you’re one of the many employers who requires the gold standard of BICSI certification, you’ll find the Electrical Alliance has exceptionally qualified workers. Many International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, Local Union 26 members are BISCI certified, thanks in part to free training offered by the Joint Apprenticeship and Training Committee (JATC). Of the nearly 50 training courses that JATC offers each semester in the Washington, D.C., area, four are BICSI certifications.
BICSI serves approximately 23,000 ICT professionals in nearly 100 countries, as a professional association supporting the advancement of the information and communications technology (ICT) community. The JATC offers all four certificates in BICSI’s Cabling Installation Program:
- Installer 1
- Installer 2, Copper
- Installer 2, Optical Fiber
- Technician
The JATC teaches each of these courses in Laurel, MD. This service is a solid perk for area technicians who wish to obtain the certification. Otherwise, they would need to travel to BICSI headquarters in Tampa, FL, or another location for 14 days of evening courses, which is difficult to coordinate with a working schedule. Local courses take place during the fall and spring semesters. Each class is limited to 12 students, which affords thorough and personalized instruction.
“BICSI is the international standard for the telecommunications industry worldwide,” said Marty McRae, an instructor with the Washington, D.C. JATC. “Having this certification gives workers a substantial leg up. BICSI certification also ensures area employers are getting highly skilled workers for their jobs.”
