As we close out an incredible year, we’re proud to share the strides we’ve made and the opportunities that lie ahead. In 2024, IBEW Local 26 achieved significant milestones that highlight the collective strength of our membership and contractor base. With over 13,000 electricians now represented in the National Capital Area, we are better positioned than ever to bid, win, and expand into new markets. This milestone reflects the dedication of our signatory contractors and the hard work of our membership.
Highlights of 2024
⭐Championing Diversity:
This year, we empowered Small, Minority, Veteran, and Woman-owned contractors to lead high-profile projects, particularly those with minority set-asides. By fostering inclusivity and supporting diverse leadership, we are paving the way for equitable opportunities across the industry.
⭐Workforce Development:
Our workforce development efforts have reached new heights. We tripled DC resident participation in JATC classes by utilizing grant-funded wrap-around services—a move that has significantly improved retention and strengthened the local workforce pipeline.
⭐Innovative Marketing:
To better connect with our community and showcase our value, we refreshed the Electrical Alliance website and launched marketing campaigns that outperformed industry standards by threefold. These efforts have enhanced visibility and highlighted the excellence of IBEW Local 26 and our contractors.
⭐Community Engagement:
Through strengthened relationships, we secured opportunities across local, state, and federal projects. This focus on community engagement has solidified our presence in the National Capital Area and beyond.
Looking Ahead to 2025
⭐Advocacy Priorities:
- Support Loudoun County datacenter siting reform.
- Champion Maryland subcontractor payment legislation to ensure fair treatment and timely compensation.
- Advocate for union jobs in Northern Virginia’s Entertainment District.
⭐Sustainability Initiatives:
We are expanding renewable energy training through partnerships like the “Solar for All” program. These initiatives will equip our workforce with the skills needed to thrive in a growing green economy and further our commitment to sustainability.
⭐Continued Workforce Empowerment:
Building on the successes of 2024, we will create more career pathways for underserved communities through workforce development grants. This will ensure a steady pipeline of skilled electricians ready to tackle the challenges of tomorrow.
As we reflect on this year’s achievements, we are energized by the possibilities that 2025 holds. We are excited to carry the momentum forward, ensuring the success of our projects and policies by continuing to work together.
