Building a stronger industry starts with making sure everyone has a place in it. This month, we’re putting the spotlight on the women shaping the future of the electrical trade.
March marked both Women’s History Month and Women in Construction Week (March 1–7, 2026). It was a chance to recognize the real, ongoing work being done to build a more inclusive workforce, and the people making it happen.
A big part of that work starts with Contemporary Electrical Services (CES). Their HR Director, who also serves as Chairperson for Workforce Development, has been driving outreach efforts that bring more women and underrepresented groups into construction careers.
Through partnerships with schools, industry groups, and community organizations, CES is opening doors for people who might not have known a career in the trades was an option.
That work also extends to their partnership with the National Association of Women in Construction (NAWIC). Through that partnership, employees get access to mentorship, professional development, networking, and leadership programs built specifically for women in the trades. This is the kind of ongoing support that makes a real difference.
The women in our industry are forewomen, mentors, safety leads, and problem-solvers. They’re building the infrastructure that communities across the DC metro area count on every day. We’re committed to growing a workforce that reflects the full range of talent available to us.
A more inclusive industry is a stronger one. For the people in it, and the communities we all serve.
Know a woman who’s considering the electrical trade? Maybe that’s you! Check out the Joint Apprenticeship Training Committee (JATC) program to discover how we can help you get started in a rewarding career with the IBEW Local 26 Union.
