The Thurgood Marshall Federal Judiciary Building’s recent first-floor renovations included an upgrade of the building’s telecom systems. Electrical Alliance contractor, Aarow Electrical Solutions, installed a new 1G infrastructure to support new users, as well as a new sound masking system.
Cabling
For this project, Aarow installed a Commscope / Uniprise Certified Solution utilizing Commscope 6504+ Category 6 Cabling and Connectivity hardware for all voice, data, CATV, and wireless locations and Work Area Outlets (WAO). The Aarow design incorporated a standard “Star Topology” for its horizontal level of telecommunications infrastructure, meaning that all WAO cabling was homerun back to its designated closet.
To transport both voice and data applications, Aarow furnished and installed Commscope 6504+ Category 6, four-pair UTP 500 MHZ cable for all workstation outlets, taking care to effectively manage the distribution of cable set forth by the design floor plans.
Aarow’s BICSI Registered Communications Distribution Designer verified the installation of a CommScope Category 6 solution in the structured cabling, which included an Information and Technology Services infrastructure.
Safety and Convenience Measures
To bring the building up to code and ensure that fire and smoke do not spread from one area of a building to another, Aarow provided and installed Hilti (CP 618) fire stopping putty for all conduits where low-voltage cabling passes through. It also reviewed and installed firestop sleeves where needed.
As cabling was installed, Aarow provided a labeling scheme to make it easy to identify any cable or component comprising a circuit that may need to be moved, changed, repaired, or replaced in the future. It thoroughly tested all copper cabling and transport electronics connected to the cabling system.
Built for the Future
One of the few CommScope Certified Systems Vendors in the Washington, D.C. area, Aarow offered a CommScope Enterprise 20 Year Extended Product Warranty and Applications Assurance for this installation. The warranty gives comprehensive coverage and assurance for a wide range of applications including voice, data, video and building management. Going beyond current applications, it also uniquely covers any future applications introduced by recognized standards bodies or user forums that utilize the relevant channel specifications in the ISO/IEC 11801 or TIA/EIA 568-C standards.
As a result, Aarow Electrical Solutions has given the client a project that it can easily expand to meet federal workers’ needs for new infrastructure and systems well into the future.
